Cebu Pacific and Philippines AirAsia fly direct from Manila to Francisco B. Reyes Airport, Busuanga (1 hour). Van transfer to Coron Town takes 30 minutes. Book early in peak season — limited flights daily.
↺ Round trip availableMontenegro Lines and Atienza Shipping run fast ferries (3.5–4 hrs). Can be rough in monsoon season (June–October). Morning departures. The expedition boat alternative takes 3–4 days via remote islands — an adventure in itself.
↺ Round trip availableNo regular direct flights from Cebu — connect via Manila (same day possible with good timing). Occasional seasonal charters. Some travellers do the Cebu–Puerto Princesa–El Nido–Coron route overland and by ferry.
Coron is on Busuanga Island in northern Palawan. Accessible by flight from Manila, ferry from El Nido, or expedition boat. Our complete guide covers every route, schedule, and the airport-to-town transfer options.
The signature Coron experience. Kayangan Lake is consistently rated one of the cleanest lakes in Asia. Twin Lagoon connects through a gap in the limestone. Barracuda Lake has thermocline layers — warm, cold, then hot. Group boat tours leave daily from Coron Town.
Coron has some of the best wreck diving in the world — 12 WWII Japanese warships sunk by US aircraft in 1944. The Irako, Akitsushima, and Olympia Maru are the most famous. Depths from 10m to 40m suit divers of all levels. Multiple PADI shops in town.
The beach tour visits Coron's best stretches of white sand. Malcapuya is the star — powdery white sand, turquoise water, few people. Banana Island has a long beach with good snorkelling. Bulog Dos has a sandbar connecting two islands. Different boat tour to the lakes.
Siete Pecados Marine Park has some of the best snorkelling in Palawan — coral gardens just below the surface with clownfish, parrotfish, and sea turtles. CYC Beach is a secluded stretch nearby. Often combined with the lakes tour.
The definitive Palawan itinerary. Lagoons and beaches in El Nido, ferry across to Coron for wreck diving and lakes, fly out of Busuanga to Manila. Or start in Coron and work south. Either direction is spectacular.
Former leper colony turned into one of Palawan's most interesting day trips. Heritage museum, quiet beaches, excellent snorkelling, and almost no tourists. Local bangka boat from Coron Town. A fascinating piece of Philippine history.
Coron connects to more islands than most people realise. Here are the most popular onward hops:
Dry season November to May is ideal — clearest water for diving and snorkelling. Peak season December to February. June to October is monsoon — cheaper, fewer tourists, but boat tours can be cancelled in rough weather. Typhoon risk exists but Coron is more sheltered than eastern Philippines.
Coron Town is where most travellers base — all the tour operators, restaurants, and dive shops are here. Busuanga has a few rural resorts. Private island resorts like Two Seasons and Club Paradise are the luxury options. Mount Tapyas viewpoint is a Coron Town highlight.
ATMs in Coron Town but they run out of cash often — bring pesos from Manila. Globe and Smart SIMs work in town, patchy on islands. No Grab. Tricycles are the main transport in town. Group island tours are the standard — private boat hire costs 3–4x more but worth it for couples.
Don't book the lakes tour and beach tour on the same day — they're separate boats going different directions. Don't skip the wreck dives even if you're just a snorkeller — some wrecks are shallow enough. Don't arrive without cash. Don't take the El Nido ferry without checking weather conditions first.
Visa, money, SIMs, transport, weather, and common mistakes. Everything a first-timer needs — written by locals.
